Yanmar 2YM15 8 hp Rebuilt

I have a question. I’m looking at a Cape Dory 27 with a non- working Yanmar 2YM15 8hp diesel engine. The owner is telling me I can purchase a rebuilt engine for about 2K. This figure seems a little low, I’m thinking more like 5K . I have years of experience with outboard. I have a basic knowledge of diesel. I know the engine not being manufactured. My question can I purchase a rebuild kit or a rebuild engine. I’m located in North Carolina. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yikes! Four grand "as is where is" with zero warranty. Could be a mooring and not an engine.

The problem is I don't know who rebuild it. I'm hoping to find a rebuild kit or an establish company who rebuilds engines. A new Beta runs about 7 to 9 K

I had my Yanmar 1GM rebuilt by a local diesel tractor mechanic. Very reasonable and I am happy with the result. Yanmar makes engines for tractors so many tractor mechanics are familiar with them.
