Insect Screens for your ports 2015

Post by John Danicic »

Greetings to all Cape Dory owners.

It is that time of year again when we turn our thoughts to fitting out our lovely boats in preparation for a season of sailing.

Also fitting out this time of year are those pesky mosquitoes and flies. Right now they are getting their proboscis's sharpened up and are tuning up their buzzes to an annoying high pitched whine.

To keep these unwanted annoyances out of our cabins but let the breezes in, over ten years ago I developed bronze insect screens for my own CD's port lights and have been selling them ever since.

Unlike the UV challenged plastic screens, these screens are rugged and age nicely with the boat. They should be the last screen you will ever buy for your Cape Dory.

Read more about them here….. http://screensofschoonerbay.com/page1/page1.html and get your order in before I am gone for the sailing season.

I've had a set for about 7 years. This is a great product at a very reasonable price. Easily removed and reinstalled as I experienced when replacing all my gaskets last year.

I echo Jim's comments. I have had mine for 4 1/2 years. They work great, look great and are easily to install and remove.

As a Lake Superior sailor I have issues with bugs and get serious about keeping them out of the cabin.

I have the original prototypes of these screens. As younger brother, it is my duty to test and comment critically (and basically annoy) John with his crazed ideas. I still have the first ones he made which are a little different than the current ones. Only real difference is fit and finish. Mine have worked very well since the 2004 season. A few of them just don't fit as well as the regular ones as he was still getting the sizing right. It is a very close tolerance. However even so they fit in just fine and stay put.

Truly the last screen you will ever need. Just fit them in them and forget them.
