CD14 rebuild

Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

CD14 rebuild

Post by Big Dave »

I'm new to the Cape Dory world and the new owner of a Cape Dory 14 (Hull 106). I rebuilt the trailer in December and now I've begun working on the boat. My projects list includes:

- Removing and reseating the forward seat/deck (this is completed)
- Replacing the rotten encapsulated wood transom (this is underway)
- Replacing the rotten and badly repaired gunwales
- Sanding down the badly "eggshelled" gelcoat and painting the hull
- Painting the interior
- Rebuilding the cracked plywood rudder
- Rigging the centerboard (it's just a steel blank with some dowels welded to it right now)
- Repair the flotation tank (?) that is built around the centerboard trunk. Mine was full of water when I bought it. How the heck is this thing assembled?

I'm looking for any wisdom or knowledge on how best to accomplish any or all of these from you knowledgeable CD owners.

Thanks!
Dave
