CD Intrepid 9m
I have sailed my CD25 for many years. It's time to make a change. I would like something that accommodates my wife and my grandchildren in more space than is available in the 25. I'm looking at CD30 cutters, and I've also run across an ad for a CD Intrepid 9m. I've always assumed that the Intrepids were a false start for Cape Dory, but I don't know why. Has anyone discovered anything particularly good or bad about them?

Re: CD Intrepid 9m
Hi Bill,
I went from a CD25 to my Intrepid 9 Meter about five years ago and wondered the same thing. The previous owner was under the impression that Cape Dory had made such a name for themselves as builders of full keel boats that the fin keel models just didn't attract that much attention. I'm not familiar with a lot of boats but mine seems to sail just fine. A couple of years ago I was talking to a 9 meter owner that got caught out in Buzzards Bay in 35 knot winds and said the boat handled it well.
My boat was 30 years old when I bought it with two previous owners, both holding on to the boat for 15 years a piece. I figured if the boat had quirky manners they would have gotten rid of it long before they did.
The Intrepids seem to sell for a little less than their full keel counterparts although they are just as well constructed and trimmed out.
Good luck on your search, feel free to contact me with any questions,

Hi Bill,
I just purchased an Intrepid 9M. I think it looks great, very well made and well cared for. Thoughtful design features, such as how the rainwater is conveyed away from the toe rail. PO had her for 25 years, first owner 9 years. I think the 9M fit my criteria very well at this point. I sailed my Ty Sr for 10 years. Now I need more space.
