WTB: Typhoon Roller Furling Jib and Hardware

Post by casampson »

Looking to buy a roller furling jib and accompanying hardware for my Typhoon. If you have a complete system that you no longer need, please contact me.

Otherwise, would love to receive advice on which system to buy should my attempt to find a used one fail.

Thank you.

Hello Chris, I installed two CDI Furlers on two Typhoons and never had a problem. I suggest getting CDI-1 with the ball bearing option and here is a web site for you.

Great little yachts!

Thanks for the tip on the CDI furler. My sailmaker likes them, but says that it is hard to tighten up the luff with them because of the way they are designed. He prefers Hood, Schaeffer, and Harkens. Any thoughts?

Hi Chris, not sure I understand the comment because the furler rides on your fore stay and has the same adjustment as if the furler was not mounted. You can snug up your fore stay and then tighten the aft stay for tightness if needed. The furler is a "plastic" type of material extrusion as opposed to metal but the CDI has worked well for me. Search the website for other comments as I do not recall reading any negative critique from the Cape Dory users. Oh, and CDI is much cheaper than the others!

He may be referring to the fact that the CDI's use an internal halyard which makes it somewhat harder to get a real tight luff on the head sail, with traditonal furlers you use the halyard and can more easily tighten or loosen the luff on the furler foil. having owned a CDI, ProFurl and now a Furlex, i do agree that it's a minor issue. But the CDI's are bullet proof.
