Passing of Bill Chapple

Post by Dick Barthel »

I feel it is appropriate to pass along the news of the passing of a very nice man who shared our love for Cape Dory. Bill was my mooring mate and was always next to me on the hard. He was an active member of the Northeast Fleet and was close to Joe Montana and Steve Laume who also call Noank, CT home. He was both learned and wise and his base of knowledge was astounding. He was also humble. As Steve said in one of his private emails he was one of the nicest men he had ever met. We spent a lot of time talking especially in the spring while we worked on our boats. Next spring will be a little sad no matter how bright the sun may be shining. Rest in peace my friend and I hope Pagoo is always with you.

This is very sad. Nancy and I had the pleasure of meeting Bill on a couple occasions. Most recently at the Watch Hill Yacht Club during a kick-off cocktail party for a Northeast Fleet cruise last summer. He was a very interesting conversationalist and a gentleman. He will be missed.

A sad day for the CDSOA. I always found his board posts interesting.
