Flying a flag on a CD 10

Hi- my little daughter gave me a pirate flag for my CD 10. She spent her whole allowance on it, so I want to fly it. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to mount a pig stick at the top of the mast without fouling the sail somehow, and I don't feel comfortable drilling into the boat to mount a flag pole. Please help me. I cannot disappoint my 11year old.

If you are on a dock you can carefully get a extension ladder and install a small block on the spreaders or rig it on the back stay

That's like standing with one foot on the boat and one on the pier, which I was taught is generally a bad idea.

I like the idea of stitching the flag to the sail, or stitching in rings the sail could be clipped to. Alternatively, if the flag is small enough, you could sew it onto the back of what's sure to become your favorite sailing shirt.

Not to mention the fact that she has a CD10.

And safety pins would be a perfectly suitable alternative to stitching.

Or stitch in two small pieces of parachute cord to the sail to tie the flag. These would flog a little less than rings.

True. No need to climb the mast on a CD10 when you can bring the mast to you.

Reminds me of a story along the same vein: I had a crew member bring along a Pirate Flag on a sail out of Nice France some ten years ago. He was a gentle yet spirited fellow of amicable nature and hard to resist. He asked me if we could mount his Pirate flag on the 47' vessel we were chartering there. I thought it a bit questionable at first but complied with his request and we flew the larger 2' x 3' flag somewhere in the rigging, I cannot recall where. After an enjoyable sail one afternoon along the Riviera upon arrival in St Tropez we were greeted by an agent from the Capitainerie (Harbormaster) who very politely requested the Pirate Flag be removed from the vessel rigging! The agent said the obvious reference to Corsica would not be so appreciated in the harbor. I was delighted it came from the Capitainerie and not myself as my friend's feelings were more important to me than the Corsican versus French dilemma. Thus, our crew are always important to us!
