westerbeke 21a vibration

I just purchased a 1987 CD32 with a westerbeke 21a diesel that noticeably starts to rumble and shake at about 1500 rpm.
It has full power and starts to smooth out at 2000 rpm.
Is this normal for diesels ?

This isn't normal, although there are resonances in any mechanical system. Did you purchase the Tarah'Mara? What did the survey say about the engine, and did you have the engine separately surveyed?

You might check the shaft and propeller to make sure the shaft is not bent and the prop is in balance. Also motor mounts.

Our boat is also a 32', Magdalena, hull #4. We've had it one year and so far it been great.
