I have a 1979 Daysailor- came with older sails (at least 20 years old but in fair condition). I'd like to get a new headsail to remain competitive with the other TY's here on the Piankatank (off the Chesapeake) and am torn with replacing the roller furling sail (a 160) or taking the roller furling off and going with a hanked on sail. Having the roller furling makes it easier to douse the headsail when going back to the dock (it is not protected from the wind and is a lee shore). I am told that I cannot be competitive with a roller furling genoa. I also wonder if a smaller headsail might be more useful since we do get some pretty good blows here on the Chesapeake.
I enjoy the TY just to sail but also to race in our Thursday afternoon Racez-vous competitions (winner buys the pizza). I;m not really a racer (we cruise on our 44 Jeanneau) but would like not to come in last most of the time.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
