Has anyone painted over the ugly interior fake teak of the 70's series CD 25's? Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul
We have a '75 CD25. The fake teak on these boats looks like it was surplus left over from reform school construction. We pulled all the bulkheads, shelves, tables and the like from our boat except for the most forward bulkhead. This was wedged in so tightly we could not get out with out possible damage. So we painted it an off white with Interlux yacht enamel. Followed the instructions and it worked fine. The table, chart table and sink table we overlayed with off white Formica. The rest we veneered with Cherry and finished bright. Made a big difference.

I painted over the Formica bulkheads on my CD-28 in white.
The transformation was amazing. The cabin now seems much
larger. I plan to paint a bit more next year, but as any
scratch will be obvious and ugly, I will not paint
areas prone to damage.

I used Interlux. Brightside Primer 4279 white and
Brightside Polyurethane 4381. I worked with a roller.
The topcoat was problematic. The roller left a surface covered
in tiny bubbles. They were hard to remove by overbrushing. To make
things worse the paint sagged in some places. I suggest you
put the paint on really thin. Don't worry about hiding the
formica as you can easily add another coat. Use a roller with
a fine textured knap. Have another person to go over your roller
work imediately with a high quality brush.

Good luck. It's worth the effort.
Mike
