Mainsail Flaking Systems Cape Dory 25D

Post by jddj »

Any suggestions about mainsail flaking systems: Dutchman vs lazy jack on 25D?
If so, who installed it? North Sails? Fairclough New Haven
Thx

The first thing I did when I acquired Susan B in 2001 was to get rid of the Lazy Jacks. The sail is not big enough to warrant any kind of system which invariably gets hung up.
Drop the sail and flake from the aft end of the boom. Actually a single well placed tie mid-boom will controi most of the canvas and two ties will give you time to tend to other tasks, like mooring.

Hi Jim,

Follow the link below to see the system I use on my CD22. I like it alot and if it works on your larger boat it will serve you well and save you money.

You can significantly reduce the amount of main you're wrestling with just by hauling in on the reefing line(s).
