CD36 Vinyl Hoses and Spartan products
Has anyone had any experience with replacing existing hoses with vinyl hoses in the head? We can't seem to get the hose to fit over the through hull and intake for the head. Have tried heating the vinyl hose to no avail. Using rubber is not an option. Wife is allergic to the stuff. We have all the hoses in the head replaced with vinyl except these two. Does anyone know if Spartan puts out a catalog or where I can get Spartan products? Any information would be helpful.

Unfortunately, CD used an oddball size on the sanitary hoses. Tony Betz ran into the same hassle with his CD-33 this summer. If you could put new barbed fittings on the head and tank you could convert to the more readily available sizes that other boats use.Has anyone had any experience with replacing existing hoses with vinyl hoses in the head? Try dipping the end of the hose in boiling water. Nothing else worked for me.

I had this same problem a few years ago when I finally 'legalized' the head on my CD30. Nothing I tried worked -- heating the hose, greasing up the fitting/hose, raw force.
Strange as this sounds, this worked...
I got a 1 inch grinding wheel (I think that's the outer diameter of the fitting), put it on my hand drill and actually 'drilled out' the inside of the hose (that white, impermeable stuff). You have to do it slowly as the material will melt. Work the wheel around carefully until you've removed enough material without going through the side of the hose. I think I went about two inches deep. It worked great. Two band clamps later and I had a tight fit on the thru-deck fitting.

Re: CD36 Vinyl Hoses and Spartan products
We replaced the head output hose with the thick walled, high-dollar value white hose, that takes a team of elephants and a young boy
(to do the throwing of the peanuts) to bend a 1 ft. radius bend in. It was not going to fit on the barbed thru-hull without help, so I vaselined up the barbed fitting, then heated the interior of the hose with a hair dryer. 10 minutes later, the hose basicly slipped right over the fitting without a problem.
I believe the trick here was in heating the interior of the hose. Heating only the exterior does not allow enough heat to reach the interior surface because the hose is so thick (like my son-in-law).
By the way..the hose changeout plus a super cleanning of the entire holding tank compartment, and replacement of the vent hose, and all hose clamps has resulted in a zero odor head..and it is used every weekend. This work earned me the "best improvement of the liveability aspect" award for 1998..from my wife. She was *so* thankful..I think I will have to come up with another improvement pretty soon!

just did this myself. boil the s.o.b. and not just briefly. it turns into a pliable noodle that goes right on. you have to hustle before it cools however. really got rid of the stink.
