Missing inner forstay tang

Post by Argo »

I have a 1986 cape dory 30 that was originally rigged as a cutter. The pervious owner took the club footed staysail off the boat and sailed it as a sloop. Now I'm trying to rig it back up as a cutter but seem to be missing some parts. I'm missing the mast attachment for the inner forestay and was wondering if anyone has a picture of that part of the mast and its hardware. I plan on fabricating the necessary parts out of stainless and it would be a huge help to see what that piece of hardware looks like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My CD36 had an oddly shaped part made by Schaefer, long out of production. Mine was cracked, but I got lucky & found a similar unused part on eBay when some old salt was selling off unused spares he kept in storage for years.

You might want to consider putting a more modern standard mast hound on there, and change the upper end of the stay from an eye fitting to a fork to match the hound. Or go with a solid looking piece from Rigging Only: http://www.riggingandhardware.com/p-479 ... -pins.aspx

Sailing involves the courage to cherish adventure and the wisdom to fear danger. Knowing where one ends, and the other begins, makes all the difference.
