Teak Grates Information

Post by Skeep »

Interested in a reasonable price for a teak grate for the cockpit sole on the Typhoon. Anyone have leads or suggestions for who can manufacture this?

I've contacted one in Florida, Teak Marine, but are there others? What are your opinions or suggestions derived over time, on such a grate for the cockpit, i.e. is it worth the expenditure?

My opinion is that its a good way to trap dirt and other such things, they will have to be taken out and cleaned often and then cleaning the cockpit sole under it. Why add to the amount of cleaning you need to do? I have never understood why people like them.

Dirt and stubbed toes but they sure are pretty, Steve.

Yes, they trap dirt and, in particular, dog hair. On the other hand, they're easy to lift and it's just a few minutes of sweep/scrub/rinse to keep the sole clean.

A Google search yields lots of vendors for grates and for teak stock... I don't have any direct experience with any of them... the grate on LIQUIDITY was made years ago by the former owner's son.
