DaySailor Question/Point Jude ??

Post by Chuck »

Good Morning to All,
First a quick note to say the Gulf Coast Fleet is doing well. We just had a big crawfish & shrimp boil that was terrific, thanks to our two Majic Chefs, Mike & Lefty.
But I want to ask if anyone is familiar with, or has SAILED, a daysailer named Point Jude. 15.5 ft. There is one for sale, too far away to drive to just try it out. I can't find any reviews online.
Thanks,
Chuck

That is a "Point Jude 15." I have never sailed one, but they are pretty common in New England, having originally been designed for the Point Judith Yacht Club in Rhode Island (they are sometimes called a "Point Judth 15"). They are a very simple, hard chined, v-bottom boat designed more for stability than speed. If you are familiar with the Blue Jay one-design, they are kind of like a larger, less race-oriented version of that boat. They were originally designed for plywood, but have been built in fiberglass for many years. I suspect the molds have passed through several hands and I am not familiar with all the variations, but the newer fiberglass versions I've seen were good looking boats finished to a fairly high standard. Used ones seem to sell for $2K - $3K including trailer and motor. They are not my personal cup of tea but, for someone seeking a relatively small, inexpensive daysailer with classic looks that is well built and sails big for its length, it would make a good choice.
