New England Machine Shop
Can anyone recommend a good New England machine shop that can make some external chainplates for me?
Also, does anyone have a CAD drawing or specs for externals for a Cape Dory 28? I've seen the various posts, but none actually include the specs.

Try Bill Ballou... http://www.hightechmachine.com/, in Wilmington, MA. I've been out of touch with him for a few years but he's a former soccer team mate and an honest, straight shooter. If he's not the right guy, he might have some ideas for you.GinoDelG wrote:Can anyone recommend a good New England machine shop that can make some external chainplates for me?

A mechanical engineer neighbor recommended Accuspec Machine in Woburn, MA (781-933-4942).
Owner/operator is Ken Fairbanks.
He will want a decent drawing of what you need made.

On the CDSOA home page there is a link for Mystic Marine Stainless Inc. Charlie does excellent work and has done custom work for me. He is a friend and former coworker of mine.

I've used Ideas Inc in Lowell, MA for custom bent, water jetted, stainless parts before. Reasonable prices, friendly people, and good work.
Re: New England Machine Shop
Another vote for Mystic Marine. Honest and cheap. Made me a backing plate on the spot from his scrap bin, charged a couple bucks. Wow! You don't see service like that very often.

New England is a pretty big region. Just sayin'. Do you want to narrow your search criteria a little? It makes a difference if you live in Bangor, Maine or Danbury, Connecticut. I'm sure the recommendations you've been given are all good ones, but there are reliable machine shops in just about every town. Buy local. This is not a difficult item to fabricate, once you know what you want.
