Winter work/wish lists
Let's break-up the winter doldrums here on the CD board. I am not suggesting a discussion of free-wheeling vs. fixed props or anything. But let's take a look at what is on your winter work list and what Santa may be leaving for the boat under the tree this year.
I'll get things started:
We need new fowl weather gear.
We probably need a new faucet/shower combo fixture for the head.
I would love to order the (semi) custom 12V distribution panel from Blue Sea Systems or Bass.
I think we are going to need a pair of batteries come spring.
I have already replaced the three incandescent bulbs in the cabin dome light fixtures with adapters and LED lights from Imtra. And, they work great at fraction of the previous amp/hour consumption.
This should get the ball rolling.

Bill, I know that you got the promotional price. I am sure everyone is running them on special right now. West Marine is selling the 441S for $349.00.

Re: Winter work/wish lists
Just because it might make the cabin look even more "shippy," I've got plans and materials for a mounted signal flag holder... 1 1/4" square pigeon holes which will have those cute little multi-colored flags peeking out of them. Less than 4" deep, so it will tuck nicely under the existing book shelf on the stbd bulkhead. It's not complicated carpentry work; just takes a somewhat steady hand and some patience.
Otherwise, winter is for splicing, whipping and the like.

Renaissance just got a new 6 oz. main with 3 reef points, and an OGM anchor light.
Hopefully by next spring all of the cabin lights will be leds'.

Re: Winter work/wish lists
My winter projects for Yankee are all rope work and canvas work - only because the major rewiring job I really need to tackle involves getting the whole boat into the basement and that has me stymied. Hate the thought of doing that sort of thing during the sailing season! Jim.

I have a new Bristol Bronze mainsail cam cleat to replace the broken bakelite one. I cant wait to use the very ergonomic access hole in the stern.NOT!! lots of small projects going on . Re: Winter work/wish lists
I am really hoping to tackle the hard dodger for Raven this year. I had some cheap windows installed in the canvas one last year but the whole thing is coming apart at the seams, literally.
This is a big project that will be hard to get right but I think the time has come. Not only is the old one falling apart but I have finished most of the other projects and upgrades that seemed more important until now, Steve.

Re: Winter work/wish lists
I was looking for something to do in the relative warmth of the cabin.
This is the area where I am going to put house batteries.
I would also like to have access to the side of the engine.
I didn't expect that it would be as difficult as it has been to remove the ice box.

Re: Winter work/wish lists
To all:
Mariah got her Mainsail conditioned by Sail Care and I couldn't be more pleased.
I am also contemplating re-varnishing the conning boards and the companion way as a spring project as well as a topside wax job, ah la Main Sail Style Well, maybe not that much work but the acid wash and the hand waxing is the way to go.
Sewing up the dodger and cockpit tarp seams will keep me busy for January. Other then that a little of fix this and organize that. A normal northern winter while on the hard.
My best to you all for this Holiday Season.

Sláinte is getting her first new mainsail in 33 years! UK Sails in Chicago. Do you think she'll notice the difference?
