Typhoon Weekender Standing Rigging

Post by jim ventrilio »

Can the specs in the owner's manual that's on this site be trusted as far as standing rigging goes. I have to replace the standing rigging on my Weekender.

Thanks.

PS: Anyone have any experience with Rolly Tasker sails? I've been thinking about a new main.

They're copies of original Cape Dory manuals. Is there any reason to suspect they're not the original specs? (If the original specs for standing rigging couldn't "be trusted," a whole bunch of masts would have fallen down by now.

yes. the numbers can be trusted. However you should measure your old rigging to compare. I found the head stay number a little long.

I had my standing rigging replaced by Rigging Only last year. They matched the measurements of the originals and I had both sets back in 3 days.

I too had Rigging Only make up new forestay and backstays they did a great job. Make sure that you mark your rigging and send them in so they can check the measurements. Mark where you normally adjust them when sailing so they can make up the stays to the correct length. I strongly recommend that you get open turnbuckles and not the barrel type. Easier to see where the adjustments are and easier to lubricate and flush them. I also had them replace the pigtail for the boom suport. I also use a separate boom lift that I use all the time except wnen at the dock or mooring. Easier to reef and drop/raise the sail without having to turn around and make the attacments.
