Water pump

I have a Jabsco water pressure pump under the double sink in my CD30. Lately building up pressure seems to be a bit of a problem. I have checked an in-line filter several times and all of the piping seems to be connected well and without any leaks. I've concluded that the pump must be malfunctioning in some way. I took the output hose and plastic attachment piece off of the pump and can get pressure that way. I looked inside of the piece that connects the line to the pump, in the output, and see that there is a rubber seal that covers a ball that comes in and out to insure a seal when the water is not being used and so pressure can be built up. The seal was not in the right place so I tooled around inside the piece and feel that I've put it back in the right spot. No luck though. I re-attached the piece and the hose and still no pressure. The only time I get pressure is when the output line is disconnected from the pump. What am I over-looking? Has anyone else had this problem? Jabsco has not replied to my request for ordering info for a new piece. Is it the rubber seal inside the plastic connecting piece or do I have a clogged hose on the output side of my water system? I had the same problem with my pressure system. Good pressure when the output line was disconnected from the pump. The problem turned out to be the water filter on the output side (apelco??). If I removed the filter, and connected the system back up, I got gobs of pressure. Our marina's water contains alot of particulates which clog filters.

If you don't have a filter downstream, then you probably do have some sort of obstruction somewhere. Keep going downstream and disconnecting (if possible) to find where a constriction is.

Another possibility to consider, Don. There is a rubber diaphragm inside the pump. It can tear or what happened to me is that it started leaking around the edge where it is clamped between the body and the cover plate. The metal plate where the push rod goes through. Try tightening those screws down. If that doesn't work you may need a new diaphragm. It's inexpesive and available everywhere but when I put my new one in it still hissed air through there and wouldn't build up pressure. It think the pump warps after time and will no longer calmp evenly on the rubber. Anyway I fixed it by taking it apart and putting silicon sealant all along the edge before I bolted it up.

It could be that when you don't have the exhaust hose hooked up there isn't any back pressure against it and it doesn't leak. When you hook up the hose and it starts to build pressure then the seal can't hold the pressure and it leaks. It doesn't drip a lot of water just hisses a tiny amount of air but enough to kill your pressure. Something to consider at least. I believe West or Bots US carries the replacement diaphragm, it's been 7 or 8 years and I can't remember where I got it now but it was from a standard source not Jabsco.

Dont overlook the possibility that the problem might be electrical..a bad connection or low voltage at the pump. Is the pump motor making a healthy grunting noise?? Just a thought...
