CD 10 Rudder gudgeons

Post by Dick Villamil »

Are the gudgeons attached via screws or bolts? I have the version of the CD 10 with the hull liner and cannot see how these fittings are attached. I have only to remove these, fill in the holes and create new anchoring points before I redo the bottom of the boat. Was the fiberglass skin attached to the wood transom with epoxy?

Hi Dick: I believe they were fastened with screws. The wooden core of the transom on mine was completely rotted away at the time I began my restoration so I don't know for sure how it was attached. Inasmuch as the gunwales were attached with some very stubborn adhesive, the transom coring probaly was too. Do you or anyone else here have any images clearly depicting the hardware attached to a CD-10? Here's an image (I think) of my project CD-10. Cheers, Brian

Brian - send me your email address via PM and I will send you photos of my CD10 - i have just replaced all hardware on it (as of yesterday) and took photos to show where everything was located. I can get measurements to accurtely locate each piece but I feel the photos will help. Unfortunately I now have to cut away the transom and recore it. Not a problem - just a headache because the boat is almost ready for the water!

The boat resides in my camp on Lake George but I suspect that I may have to return there soon to clear the driveway of the first 12" snow of the year!
