I want to remove the Tan paint on mast and boom. Boat is a 1984.
1. What is best method for a do it yourselfer?
2. Do I need to re-paint or can I leave it raw?
3. Any idea why these things were painted anyway?

Hi Bob,
I've seen a lot of 25Ds (as you know) but none other than yours with painted spars. I'd remove a little paint and see what condition the anodization is in. If the aluminum is nice and silvery and remains so for a week or two after its been exposed to the air, chances are the spars in good shape. The rest of your boats so good I'd expect the spars to be good also. Paint remover shouldn't harm the anodized aluminum.
