Questions about different year models CD 27 & 28
I am in love with the CD 28 (and the 27, 30). I've seen some for sail and would like to learn more about the differences in different year models. Some 28s, for example, have a teak cabin sole while others are white glass. Some appear to have different trim ('brows) above the portlights, some tiller and some wheel. Can anyone tell me or direct me to what model years had what options (or were all of these things "options" for original buyers)?
Many thanks!
John

For the 28 at least:
'76 and earlier
plastic ports
Port side pilot berth
Hanging locker opposite head
Pullout sink over toilet
Galley sink on starboard
"pedestal" cabin table
Companion way down to cockpit sole (almost), no bridge deck
'76-'78 changes
Bronze ports replaced plastic
Port side pilot berth removed
'78 on changes
Hanging locker behind toilet, sink opposite on starboard
Galley sink moved to companionway, reduced engine access?
Bridge deck added in companion way
Teak bow sprit replaced painted oak
Holly cabin sole replaced plastic
"pedestal" cabin table replaced w/ bulkhead mounted
Eye-brows were an add-on I believe as was wheel steering (tiller standard)
My '77 CD28 has a traveler for the club boom, I think this was an add-on
I'm sure there are more,
Dennis

Changes to the CD 27
Interesting question! I am currently retrofitting some of the changes to my 1977 CD 27 (marked with a *), since they were good ideas.
Post-1977 changes:
Built-in bow roller *
Eyebrow trim on cabin *
Bigger engine (two cylinder 14 hp, vs. one cylinder 7 hp)
Teak and holly cabin sole *
Foot pump for galley sink *
Bulkhead-mounted table (I prefer the earlier pedestal one)
Redesigned port side galley (longer, shallower, more stowage)
Redesigned electrical panel box (less bulky and intrusive)
Two doors to head and v-berth vs one door and one curtain (I prefer the earlier arrangement)

Built in Bow Roller???
Okay, I'm hooked (pardon the pun) I am the new owner of a 1985 CD27. I would love to have a bow roller for the anchor. Could you post some pictures...please! Also where did you mount the foot pump for the galley sink?
Thanks, Tim
Thanks, Tim

Hey, Tim, congratulations on your new 27!tjr818 wrote:Okay, I'm hooked (pardon the pun) I am the new owner of a 1985 CD27. I would love to have a bow roller for the anchor. Could you post some pictures...please! Also where did you mount the foot pump for the galley sink?

If my research is correct, you should already have a bow roller like this one:
I bought one off a CD 25, and am planning to install it (someday).
In case you don't already have one, Ron Churgin came up with a very nice installation, as noted on this thread
The foot pump is mounted on the starboard side, as shown in this other thread

Will that fit on a 27? are the bow angles the same? I don't have that arrangement, but I would love to have it if it fits. Does anybody have one for sale?

Re: Changes to the CD 27
Cape Dory certainly made improvements as they went along. The galley, and the electrical panel in the corner, are much better than the earlier versions.Duncan wrote:Hey, MarkSurryMark wrote:Duncan,Duncan wrote: Redesigned port side galley (longer, shallower, more stowage)

CD27 bow roller
I apologize for not having better pictures, but there a a couple of pictures here that show the setup on my boat. http://cd27.org/exterior.shtml#nogo. All it is is a block of wood that holds the stainless bow roller above the chocks on the port side. It's a little hard to get a line in the port chock, but it still works. The block has a corner knocked off so that it can slide as far forward as possible.
It works great, and has been supporting a 33 pound bruce for a long time.
Bob
P.S. It looks like my boat has sold. Hopefully Bill, a real nice guy, will join the forum.
