Cruising Downeast Maine
We're cruising downeast from Casco Bay to Mt. Desert and back again... on the tail end of the cruise, we're going to connect with the NE Fleet Maine Cruise. Here's our tentative (weather dependent) cruise plan. We're trying to keep most of the legs short so that our 6 year old won't go crazy and we have the option to skip a leg in case of bad weather. Any comments or suggestions?

See you along the way
All your choices are excellent (and the list goes on). We will be on a mooring at the Wooden Boat School in Eggemoggin Reach when you pass through and with luck we will see you on the Maine Cruise.
Have a great trip.

Re: Cruising Downeast Maine
Here's an update of how the cruise has been going:
7/22 - Fri Sebasco 15nm - Yep, mooring was $40 but you get to use their facilities (pool, showers, gym, etc.)
7/23 - Sat Boothbay 17 nm - Stayed at Brown's Wharf Marina, $30, no launch service
7/24 - Sun Boothbay - Change of plans. Amazing wind! We made it to Long Cove (by Tenant's Harbor) and anchored at times Emerald was going 7.5 knots.
7/25 - Mon Harbor Island 15 nm - Change of plans. Bad weather on Tuesday so we headed to Rockland instead. Stayed Landings Marina mooring ($25/night) right near the dock. The town is great, but the anchorage was very rolly... lots of commercial traffic... yuck.
7/26 - Tue Tenants Harbor 11 nm - Stayed at Rockland again to wait out the weather. Yuck. Ben (our six year old) got seasick. Got on land and visited the Lighthouse Museum and had a private tour of the Abbie Burgess (a USCG buoy tender).
7/27 - Wed Isle Au Haut 25 nm - Great wind in the morning then it died so motoring. Picked up one of two moorings in the harbor ($20 into a plastic pepsi bottle on the pickup buoy). This island was beautiful. We could have stayed many days.
7/28 - Thu Mt. Desert SW Harbor 29 nm - Great wind! Couldn't find anyone to talk to in SW Harbor for a mooring so went to NE Harbor instead. Moorings were $40/night
7/29 - Fri Mt. Desert NE Harbor 5 nm w/ stop @ Somes Sound 9 nm - Stayed in NE Harbor again. Caught Mackerel on a Mackerel Jig.
7/30 - Sat Mt. Desert NE Harbor - Stayed in NE Harbor again.
7/31 – Sun Mackerel Cove, Swans Is. 12 nm - Anchored in Valley Cove off Somes Sound instead. Deep, rocky, rigged a trip line on the anchor.
8/01 - Mon Eggemoggin Reach, Center Harbor Brookline (see Jane and Steven) 11 nm. Fog fog fog... wrapped a lobster pot line on the prop, had to dive over with a small saw and cut the line. Glad it was calm. Made it. Stayed on a Brooklin Boat Yard mooring for $25.
8/02 - Tue Isleborough, Isleborough Harbor (see Jeff & Tarah) 15 nm - Anchored near Holbrook Island near Castine. Beautiful anchorage. Had cocktails with a PS40 owner, and a couple from the Netherlands who were chartering a friendship sloop.
8/03 - Wed Rockland Harbor (lobster festival) 15 nm - Went to Turtlehead Cove, Isleborough instead next to Jeff & Tara.
8/04 – Thu Tenant's Harbor 15 nm - Long day... 30 nm to Tenants from Isleborough.
8/05 – Fri Monhegan Island 15 nm - Nope... too rolly so we went back to Boothbay instead... great wind! Averaged 5 knots for close to 6 hours.
8/06 – Sat Seguin Is. 19nm - Heading to Robinhood tonight to catch up with some CD friends and have dinner at the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse... yum!

Your cruising grounds are very intriguing. I hope to find the charts and follow the route you traveled. I have the sense, reading, that you know the area well, and accept the challenges for the rewards. Thanks for the posts.
