Need Help finding a Trailer for the Pac Cup

Post by Duane Yoslov »

I have entered Mystic, my CD330 in the 2000 Pacific Cup Race from San Francisco to Hawaii. Due to time constraints, I will not be able to sail the boat back and I have been looking into Shipping the boat back. What I have found out is that if you have a trailer, they can position the boat anywhere they want on the ship. Therefore it is about 1/4 the cost of building a cradle and putting it on as deck cargo.

I know that CD33's are not typically thought of as trailerable boats but this is not something that needs to be highway legal...just something that will support the boat and be mobile.

Please let me know if you can help or have any suggestions.

Duane,

Have you though of purchasing a cradle rather than a trailer. Companies like JOWI Sailboat Support Systems make cradles of all sizes. The cradle could then be used year after year to store your boat when on the hard. The cradle for your boat would cost about $1600 from JOWI.

If you don't want to purchase a cradle they also transport boats. For this they use a special tractor-trailer sized sailboat trailer. If a company like JOWI does the move for you, I suppose their trailer can be placed on the ship and they would deliver it to your marina once the boat has been unloaded in port. (JOWI is the company that moves the America's Cup boats.)

You can check out the JOWI website for more info.

The marina where I keep my boat places nearly all of the boats stored for the winter in JOWI cradles, including mine. They seem to be good quality cradles. Also, I've noticed several boats delivered to the marina (big ones) on huge JOWI cradles.

This webpage lists other boat movers. I don't know anything about them, so you'll have to do the research if you're interested in any of them.
