CD25 Port Configuration

Post by RichS »

In the last few months I have looked at two CD25s with different port configurations. In searching this site I found references to an article by John Ring about the 25. The site given nolonger exists. Can anyone help me with a way to to MrRing's article or help with what arethe different port configurations and when did they occur?
THANKS

I don't have the John's website even though I have John's old boat. Here is the way I remember it: early 70's up to around 1977 there were 3 ports per side two smaller ones forward, one in the head one in the vee berth, and a larger one in what I like to call the main saloon. Those were aluminum. Around 1977 they began using the same configuration but made of white plastic. Some time in 1980 throuogh the end of the production in 1981, they used the very nice bronze spartan opening ports, 3 per side, same size evenly spaced. The history may be somehere on the CD site here to double check my fallible memory.

After 1977 Cape Dory installed bronze Spartan portlights, before that they didn't.

The 3 portlights on the pre-1980 models, as Roy pointed out, consisted of two smaller ones up forward and a larger one aft like this:

The post-1980 models had three identical Spartan portlights like this:

Thanks this makes sense to me now. In the early 70's Cape Dory for a short time was located in West Bridgewater, MA, before they went to Taunton. I lived about half a mile away and visited a few times during that period. It was like visiting a very large candy factory! They were all just as beautiful then brand new off the assembly line.

Thanks to both of you for the information, it seems that there are more aluminum configurations than the plastic.

Had three portlights, but it was two large ones in the main cabin and a smaller one in the v-berth area.

Also the early ones just had a big space for the engine. no shelves for gas cans or any form of liner. This applies to about the first hundred boats.
