Manasquan
I've been in Manasquan several times because of weather and sick crew and I have found it easy to enter, but impossible to anchor in. The current in there makes it difficult to tie up to a pier except at slack. Hopefully someone with more experience in the area can give you some advice, otherwise I would plan differently and go straight from Sandy Hook to A.C. or possibly Barnegat with local knowledge.
Fairwinds and following seas,

Use chart 12324. After entering the inlet continue until you are approaching the RR bridge (usually open). Just before the bridge turn to starboard and you will enter a small creek known locally as "Glimmerglass." Follow the marked channel until you come to a small bridge and after passing through (this bridge opens on demand) anchor in about 8 feet a little to starboard. This spot is quite secure and will hold maybe 3 cruising boats.hrsail wrote: ... want to stop at Manasquan, but am having trouble figuring where to safely anchor ...

Do as Armand suggested and do it on a rising tide if you can to avoid any problems in the channel on Crabtown Creek leading into The Glimmer Glass. Also, the Brielle Road Glimmer Glass bascule bridge is very narrow, only one boat can go through at a time, and boats travelling with the current have right-of-way. It's a historic bridge, so take a good look at it while you wait for an opening. You need to stay close to one side of the bridge to ensure good clearance for your rigging but you'll make it. After you're anchored, if you want to go ashore, row your dinghy to the beach by the railroad trestle.

has a couple of photos taken on the Glimmer Glass, 1) of the bascule, and 2) of the anchorage with a couple sailboats in it.
If you can find one, I recommend carrying a copy of Skipper Bob's Anchorages Along the Intracoastal Waterway. "Skipper Bob" passed away in 2006, but the folks at Waterway Guide have agreed to take over those publications. The last time I purchased a Skipper Bob publication, I got it from Landfall Navigation. Just GOOGLE "Skipper Bob Publications".
