Introducing my Typhoon in New York
hello everyone-
my name is tim and i am the new owner of a cape dory typhoon weekender and i am completely obsessed with it. i am 30 years old and have been sailing for only a few short years. this is the first sailboat i have owned and the learning curve has been steep. i am basically figuring out everything on my own and from reading this board and looking at books. i have done a lot of aesthetic work on the boat to make it look as good as possible, the structural aspects of the boat were already in great shape. i have the boat in stony point, ny which is just north of the tappan zee bridge on the hudson river. the boat had previously resided in manhattan off the 79th st boat basin. i am the third owner of this 1975 boat. i have cleaned it through and through and i am immensely proud of how beautiful she looks. her name is "the ipswich" and she's quirky, sturdy and proud. i am now obsessed with the typhoon and cape dory boats and look forward to many years of sailing her. i also look forward to getting to know the members of this board.
does anyone on this board have a boat on the hudson? i'd love to know a thyphooner nearby. i also have a host of questions but i'll post them later.
thanks!
PS here she is:

Hi Tim
First you have to learn to say "My name is Tim, and I'm a CDaholic"
But seriously...howdy neighbor. I keep my '28 at the Nyack Boat Club, and often head up to the south side of Croton for a swim. Will probably do so tomorrow or Tuesday, weather permitting.
There are a few other CD's on the river - I believe a couple of 30's out of Croton Marina and/or Ossning, although I've never seen them on the river. Also a very pretty 30 or so at Petersons (North Nyack), although I've NEVER seen it off the mooring, though I pass by all the time.
I'd be more than happy to host you for a sail, or hook up for a rendezvous. Ping me your number and I'll give you a buzz.
Matt

Bill Goldsmith sails his CD32 Loonsong out of Croton I believe.

Our CD32 Realization is south of you on Raritan Bay (Lower New York Harbor). If you ever sail into NY harbor (Upper or Lower), try hailing us on the VHF.

Great-looking Ty. Congratulations.
I'd be interested to hear about your experience with the 79th street Boat Basin. Every year I debate with myself about whether to try a season there (I actually live three blocks up the hill, right on 79th Street).
Thanks,
Carter

Dear Ipsich...
Ipswich, don't feel bad about your obsession. I once had a fellow Cape Dory Sailor say about me: "He's only man I know who bought a Cape Dory and turned it onto a religion."
This statement about me may be more accuarate now than ever!
Fair winds!

Re: Raritan Bay
i love the 79th st boat basin. although it's pretty much all moorings and the current there is terrifically strong. but it's convenient and fun and the view of the skyline is unmatched. i might keep my boat there in the future.Carter Brey wrote:Tim,ipswich wrote:cool- i often go sailing with a friend who has a cape dory 25 out of the 79th st boat basin. my boat used to be kept at the boat basin. now it's in stony point, up river.Cathy Monaghan wrote:Our CD32 Realization is south of you on Raritan Bay (Lower New York Harbor). Liberty Landing
Hi Domenic,
What a surprise.
It is good to hear from you again. I heard that I almost met you when we stopped at Liberty Landing Marina last year.
Some day we will meet. I hope it is soon.
Best regards,
O J
