COMO NO

Re-entry Anxiety

Post by Como No Cruising »

While many folks fret about making the decision to go cruising either full time or part time we find ourselves in the position of pondering about re-entering the shore bound life. It has been an awesome 14 years of full time live aboard and cruising. This life style has exceeded all our expectations. However, we are now facing the fact that we are not as nimble and quick as we were even just a few years ago. Indeed, the Captain was advised by his back surgeon in 1992 that he had maybe 10-12 good years to look forward to. Well, the rest of the back is starting to go now, so it appears to be time to make a change.

All of this leads to the fact that we must reintegrate into life ashore. We will continue to live aboard Como No until a buyer comes along; and will continue preparing her for a second circumnavigation. Today we even took the anchor chain and two bow anchors in to be re-galvanized. The brightwork on deck is being refinished and the countertops are being replaced in the galley and head. Varnish work below decks is being freshened up and redone in places. Not that Como No requires a lot of work, mind you, we just want her to be a source of pride to us and her new potential owners. As of today, June 2, 2010, we could have the liferaft certification done and be ready to sail off to anywhere in the world. She is that ready to go. We intend to keep her that way.

The long and short of it is that we are the ones that are not as seaworthy as our faithful craft. It is a sad fact to face, but age has taken its toll on us. We will still derive joy in working on Como No for the time being and will continue to be thankful for the years that she has given us and the wonderful places we have been.

We pass on this advice to others. If you think you want to go cruising, by all means give it a shot. It is easier than you think and the rewards are unmeasurable.

If you know anyone looking for a really well found CD-40 send them our way. This one is very well equipped and has many features not found on others. Como No is a serious offshore cruiser and is ready to go. We will likely advertise her on line.

We are aware that the adjustment from the cruising lifestyle will take time. Just as we knew that we would have to work on becoming "Cruisers".

If you are in the Clear Lake, Kemah area of Houston you can find us at Waterford Harbor Marina.
