CD25 outboard problem

I just purchased a 4 stroke 9.8 tohatsu but it won't fit in the engine well with our without the current motor mount in place. It seems the AP diameter of the engine is too large. The lower unit and prop went down without a problem. Has anyone had this trouble and if so, have you had to make any modifications to the engine well to make it fit? What are your suggestions please...?
