Halyard lift block replacement for CD30

Post by Galliard »

The mainsail halyard lift block on my CD30 cutter needs to be replaced (gets stuck when it reaches a certain amount of load) and I'd like to buy the replacement block before going up to the mast with the bosun's chair. Anyone know a good replacement block that would match the old one or at least the dimensions of the opening?

Thanks.

Assuming you have the stock arrangement, strictly speaking, your halyards run on sheaves, not blocks. Click on the link below for a picture of the stock masthead fitting.

The two little dots toward the middle are the sheave axles. There are a total of four sheaves, a set of two sitting side-by-side on the front axle and a set of two sitting side-by-side on the rear axle. If you still have external halyards and you follow convention, your main halyard uses both of the sheaves on the right (starboard) and your yankee halyard uses both of the sheaves on the left (port).

It is unlikely that you actually need to replace any sheaves. More likely, you just need to clean and lubricate them.

Great advice. Some cleaning and lithium grease on the sheaves did the trick.

Thanks :)
