A friend of mine purchased a Catalina 34 myself and 4 others helped deliver her from Jacksonville to Charleston starting on the 11th of Feb and winding up in SC on the 15th. The key to this trip was all of us getting along with the 2 hrs on and 4hrs off schedule slowly wearing us down. This is so key as teamwork respect and consideration are key in confined quarters
We took the icw for about half of the trip motoring and passing under three bridges. even though each bridge showed 15 more feet than we needed to clear we held our breath under each one . it seemed we would never clear them . on one occasion one old bridge started to lower as we made our passage!!! we had to circle around and wait.
the second day saw us popping out to the ocean and in the evening phosporescent dots trailed the hull every 10 seconds or so like fireflys, what were they?. the sky was blessed with more stars than I thought I would ever see. The sea in the evening magnifys all senses and connects you physically and spiritually to all there is
We kept watch with no radar at night looking for any light that could evolve into trouble...all evening we only saw a few lights from trallers. knowing that if we hit somthing in the night such as cargo or other flotsam kept us alert..We approached Charleston Harbor on the last day at 5am was magnificant as rainbow row welcomed us home..I was sad to make lands..thinking only of how the landing now transformed us to a less exciting existance. I now look for the next trip
delivery to charleston from Jacksonville
