I have recently established a group account at Boat/US for "New England Cape Dory Owners Association". Realizing that an "Official" organization does not exist I took creative license while establishing the name. This group account will entitle fellow CD owners in the New England area (New Jersey to Maine) to 50% off their annual Boat/US membership fee of $17.00 ($8.50 for group members). Group members will also be entitled to attend periodic "cooperative groups sale nights" at the regional retail outlets, plus receipt of discount mailings for catalog orders.
To receive your group ID membership number I need to establish a "membership" list which I will forward to Boat/US. Please forward me an e-mail with the following information:
Name
Street Address
Vessel Type (power or sail)
Make - Cape Dory
Model
Vessel Name
Home Port
Upon receipt of your information I will respond with your group ID number which you will need to reference when renewing membership or applying for membership.
Boat /US has also indicated an interest in providing merchandise or sponsorship for upcoming New England CD Owners events. They also have a referral service for securing speakers to address various topics with our group.
I apologize to anyone who takes offense with me taking this initiative and do not want these efforts to interfere with any efforts to create a "formal" organization if such an organization is under development.
WALT - Please let me know if you folks would be interested in a similar arrangement for your organization. I will forward you their minimum membership requirements if you are interested.

New England CD Owners - Discount at Boat US

Re: New England CD Owners - Discount at Boat US
Will Boat/US discount additional tow coverage in addition to their annual base fee? The Boat/US tow boat is docked about 50 yards from me at Marina Bay in Boston and was more than happy to offer me *free* membership one time when I was at the fuel dock.

Re: New England CD Owners - Discount at Boat US
Neil - The offer they have made to us is their standard discount package to larger clubs or organizations. Once we have established a firm membership roster I will be in a better position to negotiate additional benefits.
Perhaps the tow operator was offering discounts out of fear. He may have seen fellow stubborn CD owners sailing into their docks (myself included) as opposed to calling for a tow. Considering his proximity to other vessels he may have feared for the well being of his own boat.

Chris,
Apologize not!
I'll toss in my thoughts about creating a more formal organization.
The Onset meet was accomplished by individual effort without an org. The Maine meet, same thing. The Boat/US deal, same thing. The ability to keep in touch with CD owners, locally, nationally, etc., is well done by those who sponsor and maintain this site.
In the best New England tradition <g>, individual effort is all that's been required. I suggest that's all we need. Any other opinions?
