I have learned a great deal about great boats on this board, the contributors to which helped me decide what boat to purchase and how to care for it. Contrary to complaints in a recent sarcastic barrage of messages, there is a great deal of humor on this board (read Capt. Stump for some good ones), but it's usually subtle. I support Walt's editorial license. I sense this group would like to maintain a flow of ideas on this site without people turning away because they don't want to be chided in respose to their questions. It would be a shame to change the attitude on this board.

This is a great board

Re: This is a great board
I share the above thoughts. I hope we didn't have any first time visitors today who may not be back because of a really different tone from what we've all come to know as our "home" in cyberspace. May tomorrow be filled with the kind of messages we've grown used to in 160,000+ conversations among friends.I have learned a great deal about great boats on this board, the contributors to which helped me decide what boat to purchase and how to care for it. My Sentiments too.....
My feelings on this topic echo the above posts. Lets leave the personal attacks and the biting sarcastic remarks to the Cruising World BB.
We are all here because we treasure our Cape Dorys, seek each others help, and share the comaradarie of owning one of the greatest boats ever built !!!!! Just owning (or considering) a Cape Dory shows such excellent judgement I can only surmise those posts were not made by a Dorian............
Personally, I feel that if you are not "man enough" (referring to one of those posts)to put your real name, e-mail address (someone might want to respond off board) and which boat you proudly own (it puts your answer/advice into perspective and helps us find other Dorys like our own), well then you just don't need to post here............
I've been reading this board for about a year now, and this is the first time I can remember this happening. Hopefully this won't happen again It sure would be inconvenient to have to go through some kind of member logon and screening procedure. Additionally it would hurt the board because lots of first time browsers might pass it by.
But Walt, you do what you need to do and I'll support you. The aggreagte amount of knowledge and experience available through this board to new Dorians such as myself is priceless.
That said, I'am going sailing. Be back Sunday night.........
