Zebra mussels & Outboard motors

Post by s calder »

Here is Colorado my lake has recently come under seige from Zebra mussels. My CD 25's long shaft motor is always in the water. Does anyone know of a method for repelling these critters or forming a barrier to keep them from getting into the water pump and cooling lines?...like a durable rubber bag or something installed over the bottom end of the motor while the boat is not in use? I don't think anti-fouling paint alone will do it. Thanks

I am using an old rubber lined sleeping bag cover that I work
under the prop to cover the immersed lower unit. Then I pour in either ammonia, or bleach, or vinegar, depending whats handy.

Dick: Thanks for that. It sounds like a very workable idea.
