I could never find that source of cruddy water that was left behind in the motor pan. That was until today. I was down on the boat getting the shaft off so I could remove the prop. While working on the coupling I found the problem. The Vernalift muffler had rubbed against the exhaust manifold until it wore away a hole. It must of been happening for quite some time. If your muffler is mounted close to the manifold you may want to take a look.

Ray,
I've had to replace the exhaust elbow twice in the 9 years I've had my CD27....the most recent was right at the end of last season.
Its rated for about 5 years. Corrosion of course is the problem in salt water. So now I check every year, especially when its been a few years since the last one.
The corroded piece in your photo is pretty close to the elbow but its all in the same system so what happens with the elbow pretty much would apply here I would think.

Elbow Corrosion
The mixing elbows on my 27 seems to last about 5-6 years; my engine gets light use. Do you think the rate of corrosion is tied to engine use, or straight aging?
