Oh and by the way, prop is locked on my Open 60 (there is a secret button to do it), but then its a folding prop unlike my CD.
I don't EVEN want to hear about your prop!! :D

But I'm using your post to start a 'December' thread, OK?

So here's a thought...

Even though we cannot see the thousands of other competitors separating us from the leaders, still, we seem to be gaining on them ever so slowly (or at least holding our own) even though the "podium" leaders have all of the automatic gizmos, while we are hand sailing (with regular sleep hours and day jobs)!!

Heck I dont care about catching up to the leaders, I would be happy to just catch up with my fellow CDers!

Oh and what is a "day job"? Is that related to that four letter word that starts with "W"?

At least they were smart enough to build my boat with a tiller.

Be careful this is a family board and that is the vilest of four letter words.

Even our fortunes change here and there.

I started in the back, worked my way up to about 2,500th until a wind shift hove me to while I napped. That dropped me to about 14,000th while John Ring was spitting at the leaders. But then I poked through the dead spot that trapped Tantalus and now I'm in about 3,000th place. It's not over yet.

What is sort of amazing though is that after all these miles, Sea Owl and I risked locking our spreaders most of today.

Standings...

Ahh....thankfully we have a tiller! :D

How else would Neil and I have avoided locking up? That and the 413 boats between us for a cushion!

We do continue to hold our own - but did that little low change things up, or what? A fine example of the miles yet to go, and how things change! I know that through the night and morning, for awhile I felt like I was going the wrong way!

John is down but not out, Judith is coming on strong, and we continue to crawl up on the leaders....

....I can just see that 27th place book now! :D

Coffee's ready, have to go below a bit and pour some....

Russell, I think we have a race going! You're about 1800 places in front of me at present but it's scarey out here in a daysailor

Check the front of the pack. Looks like one of the leaders has missed the gate. He's heading south now with the rest of the pack and if he doesn't go back and cross over the gate, he'll be disqualified. That will move us all up 1 place!

Would that be Free Bearn? Looks like he passed pretty close. What is the significance of the different colours on that group? They were all red earlier.

Yes, that would be Free Bearn. His track is on the wrong side of the buoy. Same for David LANCRY, currently the #1 boat. It may be the software and how it's laying out the graphics, but I'd be careful rounding those marks.

The colors are the hull colors selected on signup. If they're changing, it's a software thing.

To clarify, Free Bairn is still OK but just hasn't validated the gate yet. He doesn't have to round the end mark; he only has to leave any point on the line to starboard. He does still need to pop above the line at some point before its end though.

There is a good document in the "News" section that clearly explains how the gates work, worth a look if you haven't seen it yet.

Yes, good point. It doesn't look like they're going back though. It's hard to believe that more than one front runner would make that mistake.
