Carolinas' Fleet - Ball Creek Cruise & Cookout.

Post by Pete »

Hello everyone!!

It is that time again: the Ball Creek Cruise is on August 9 this year. We welcome the Cape Dory group to our Creek, house and porch. One note: We have a big swimming event in Goldsboro that morning, and we will be returning around 3:00 PM, perhaps a little later. After that time the party is on! We will have our (small) dinghy available to ferry people back and forth.

Please bring a dish to share. Also, please let us know if you plan to attend, so we can have an idea of numbers. We can be reached via Email at: gvanmeeteren [at] gmail [dot] com

We’ll see you on the 9th

Hans, Greta and first mate Kobus van Meeteren

P.S. Directions and Local Information for Captains follow below...

Sailing Directions to Ball Creek

Coming up the Bay River, here are the waypoints for the Bay River markers:

• Bay River Green #1 -- 35° 09.78' N 76° 31.95' W
• Bay River Green # 3 -- 35° 10.81' N 76° 33.50' W
• Bay River Red #4 -- 35° 10.39' N, 76° 36.34' W

• Once you pass Red #4, you'll have to follow the small wildlife markers.

Following Markers are Wildlife Markers:

• Ball Creek Entrance between Green #1 and Red #2 –
35° 09.81' N 76° 37.60' W
• Ball Creek Green #3 -- 35° 09.62' N - 76° 37.71' W
• Ball Creek Red #4 -- 35° 09.57' N - 76° 37.83' W
• Ball Creek Green #5 -- 35° 09.53' N - 76° 37.96' W
• Ball Creek Red #6 -- 35° 09.47' N - 76° 37.99' W
• Ball Creek Green #7 -- 35° 09.40' N - 76° 38.11' W
• Green #7 is in front of our house; you will see Warrel II in her slip, sticking way out into the creek. Good anchorage is past our dock, on our side of the channel.

Coming into Ball Creek from the Bay River, you'll want to stay right between Greens #3 and #5 (#3 astern, #5 on the bow), that is the deeper side of the channel.

Driving directions to our house for the landlubbers:

From New Bern, take highway 55. In Pamlico County you’ll drive through Alliance, Bayboro and Stonewall.

Once through Stonewall, you'll see the Alligator Loop Road twice on your left hand site. Then you'll cross a very small bridge, and immediately after that you need to make a left turn on to Florence Road. You’ll know you’ve missed it if you see the garden store on your left.

Stay on Florence Road for about 7 miles. You'll get to Day's Corner convenience store (now closed). The road forks here; stay to the left. The first street past the convenience store on the left is Winchester Way.

Winchester Way makes two 900 turns at the beginning. Follow the road until the end. Our house is the last one on the left-hand side (almond colored with green roof).
