I had an upsetting thing happen today before leaving 1982 cd30. I was leaning on the stern rail on the port side and noticed it seemed loose. Looking closer at the forward most base I shook the rail to see just how loose. Well the rails tube pulled right out of its base! I have to wonder how bad are the three remaining bases. For that matter what about the bow pulpit. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? If not it might be wise to inspect these bases. Does anyone know of a good place to get this welded in southeastern connecticut?
thanx in advance to all

Re: stern rails
Jack,
I had the same thing happen on my CD30. I removed the stern pulpit and took it to a local welder. Had him reattach the base and reinforce all of the other bases with a 1/8" fillet weld for $20.00. Any welding shop should be able to TIG weld stainless steel. When manufactured, the bases were attached with a pretty insignificant contact weld. Prior to removal matchmark (scratch) the base and tube so they are aligned properly. Otherwise you will be filling and drilling holes in the deck.

Jack,
My Rails and bases are all one welded arrangement. There was some info on this board on the initial CD supplier. You might, for some reason, have an inferior replacement.
Try Mystic Rigging, Rich Cobb, at 860-536-4708. He reworked my goosenecks, doing a fine job. However, get a FIRM, and I mean FIRM!!, time commitment out of him.
Good luck.

Re: stern rails
Jack,
Most likely those stern pulpits were made by Ocean Engineering in North Brandford, CT (203-488-8960) and they should be able to give you excellent insight as to repair or whatever is required. I recently bought a new stantion to replace one that was bent on CD28 MOON CHILD and previously had bought the "designed" swim ladder for my CD27 and have been pleased with their service. You can actually visit their facilities and it might be that if you are going to have to remove your stern pulpit anyway, they could fix it properly to design specs.
Their address is in the "Where to Look" section of the CCDOA BB.
