Wow! I was unaware that any of the Cape Dorys had centerboards. I thought they were all full keel yachts. Even the Typhoon has a full keel. Which model do you own?

I assume he's referring to a Cape Dory 10 - the first boat Andy Vavolotis built and sold. It's the only one Spartan Marine has in its catalog.

I was just in my CD10 yesterday. I tied a stopper knot in the line for the first time after seeing your message. I won't give you my centerboard but I am very sympathetic. Here is what I would do until you can buy or find a new one(or use one as a patern) Make a daggerboard from 1/2 or 3/4" ply(any kind, you won't need it for long)
Mount a couple of cheeks on the top that will make it about as wide as the existing piece of wood over the slot. Slide it in and use a small C-clamp to hold it in the slot. Now you can see what different set ups willdo, how about a 4' board so you can tell me how much better her windward performance is! How about a board that fills the slot with reduced draft, a true full keel Dory as Alburg I'm sure wanted to do but but never lost a centerboard. I have often wondered how performance would improve if a centerboard didn't slop around. Come to think of it I might throw mine away and run with this! Let me know what you do. Tom
