The Marine Registry used to be on Canal Street, near North Station. I'm not sure whether the Big Dig has caused it to move.Kathleen Forsythe wrote: Where does one register a boat around the Boston area?

Last year, they were on Portland St near North Station and the phone book now shows them on Cambridge St. I suggest you call the Marine and Recreational Vehicle office at 617-727-3900 to see where they are now.Duncan Maio wrote:The Marine Registry used to be on Canal Street, near North Station. The advice you got to call first is a good idea, as the offices tend to move around.
You may have to pay (or prove that you paid) sales tax before you can register your boat. The annoying part is that the tax office is in a different building. <groan>
What boat and where will you be sailing??

Try the Hyannis Registry. It's right on Rt. 132 in Hyannis. You can pay your sales tax at the same counter and the staff is always friendly.Kathleen Forsythe wrote: Where does one register a boat around the Boston area?

The office is located at 175 Portland St. near North Station. You have to go to the Saltonstall Bldg in Governnment Center to pay sales tax 1st. You will need your bill of sale for that. No one questioned the purchase price of my CD 25. Check the Marine classified listings in local papers, you may find registration "runners" who will do this for a fee. There are only four or five offices in the state. Boston, Hyannis, Worcester, Springfield?? They are listed under Envorinmental Services or Police(interchangable). I think my registration fee came to $45, exclusive of sales tax. I happenened to be intown on business and went mid day and breezed right through.
