CD25D hull leak

Post by Jim Jamieson »

During a wet and wild trip down the New Jersey coast a couple of weeks ago, I found that the bilge frequently filled with water. All the through hulls were intact and I finally traced the problem to the anchor locker. The liner for the locker is supposed to be tighlty glassed to the hull where the drain hole in the bow is located but there was a 1/4" void between the two such that any water coming into the locker from waves or from submersion of the drain hole in large waves let water run between the hull and liner and so drain into the bilge via the shower floor drain. This was clearly the source when I let a hose run into the locker. Glass up the space and all should be well.I'd be curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Just went out and checked my anchor locker and find it is glassed all the way around that bulkhead. But, I have had problems with that teeny tiny drain hole clogging up. I found I need to pull everything out every few months and blow the hole out with a hose.
