Anybody with Info??
Am planning to drop in at Kentucky Lake 1-2-08 and "sail" down the Tenn-Tom. Are there any draft problems because of the drought conditions down South? I need 4'-6" and do not want any surprises.

Cruising Down the River
Scott,
I am not familiar with the Tenn-Tom so I am not sure what you mean by "down". Are you planning to go down the Tennessee toward Paducah, or down the Tombigbee toward Mobile? If you are planning to go south all the way to Mobile the Central Gulf Fleet would be very happy to help you in arranging berthing or anything else you might need in the Mobile Bay region. We would also like to have you as our guest when you get here to hear about your trip.
I will contact our members to see what local knowledge they might have about the route. There is a dated (1991) but very thorough cruising guide to the Tenn-Tom by Rumsey, published by International Marine Publishing that would be very useful to you. Please let us know if we can help in any way in planning your trip.

Good Morning Scott
Here is a link to a sight that list some cruising guides one of which is to the Tenn-Tom. Friends of mine just returned via that waterway, but they were in a 46 foot Carver MV.
I am considering putting Rhapsody in the water at Demopolis Yacht Basin, but that is a pipe dream right now and still a couple of hundred miles inland from Mobile.
I have talked with the folks at Demopolis and they assure me that there are no surprises concerning depth or bridge height at least for me (3.5' draft and about 36' above the water).
Check out the guides and I am sure that Steve and the crew from Central Gulf fleet will have more info for you. You should be able to get the guides from Bluewater Books or some similiar marina store.
Good Luck

Steve,
I am planning to go to Mobile via the Tombigbee and then on to Key West. Hope to be in your neighborhood around the third week in January. Would enjoy meeting other members when we are in the area.
My boat is actually a Katrina survivor from the New Orleans City Marina (found it laying on it's side in a parking lot), I may also be getting in touch with the previous owner. He wants to perform an "inspection".
Thanks for the information about the cruising guide, I will check it out.
Thanks again for your help, Scott Hile

Scott
There are a bunch of IFs involved here. IF we home school our grand son next year, the plan is for he and I to do a bit of travelling via boat and auto. That being the case we would leave here in the fall and go downstream on the Arkansas to the last marina with a lift. Them perhaps to Demopolis via trailer. I dont want to be on the Mississippi with a one lunger.
Once in Demopolis, we sould wait somewhere along the way for the end of Hurricane season and head south for the coast and coast hop from thene to Floriday and the Keys and around the east side of florida. He wants to go to the Bahamas. I am not too sure about any of these plans, let alone going to the Bahamas. I have had one encounter with the Gulf Stream and am not too sure I want to have another especially with an 11 year old aboard.
Anyway, IF the planets and the stars align and I hit a lottery somewhere AND the Admiral agrees to continue to work this might happen

Just helped a friend bring his boat (Nonsuch 26, 4'draft 50 'stick)
fom Demopolis to Fairhope. Nice 4 day trip (228mi). No problems with depth or bridges, you go through two locks. From Demopolis yacht basin first good anchorage is Bashi Creek, next night Bobbys
fish Camp, third night Alabama river cutoff, then on to Mobile or wherever. Catfish is great at Bobbys' but remember to wear something camoflage to fit in. A nice scenic trip, you are riding with the current so you can probably maintain 6 knots.
