Recognition for Oswego John

Post by s calder »

I would like to say a few words in recognition of the contribution Oswego John has made and continues to make to this board. Recently "OJ" went out of his way to help me trouble shoot and solve an electrical problem I had been having for 3 years with my outboard motor, by means of postings and numerous private messages which cris-crossed the country for days. His knowledge, expertise and wisdom are an asset to us all and exemplify what this board is about. During the 3 years I have been a member, I have always been impressed by the thoughtful advice and impressive detail he puts into his posts. I, for one, lift my glass to you, OJ, and I hope to keep seeing your posts for a good long time to come. Thanks and "bottoms up", (your glass, not your boat).

Aw....now yer gonna' give him a swelled head!! He'll be totally unbearable to live with around here from now on! :)

Seriously...his posts are always informative and are also downright entertaining!!

I'd lift a glass to him too, but I have to go to work right now so it'll have to wait until I get home!!!

Here's to OJ!

Post by NevisTyphoon »

When I posted that I needed a new rudder for my Ty, OJ promptly sent me a template and complete instructions to build one better than was original!

I swear, OJ must just spend his whole time helping others, and is a true gentleman in how he does so.

A pitcher of rum punch for you OJ, when you next make it by Nevis!

I completely agree with S. Calder and everyone else.

Oswego John has been immensely helpful in my efforts to own a sailboat. When I have found one of interest in the New York area he has volunteered to investigate the boat for me if I remain interested. He has sent me PMs making very helpful suggestions and suggesting caution with certain ones on the market.

In fairness, others on this board have also offered assistance and encouragement in my efforts. I cannot begin to express my gratitude to Oswego John and all, except to say

THANKS AND FAIR WINDS :!: :!: :!:

Hear Hear, one and all! Three cheers for the sage of Oswego. Couldn't agree more with all of the above. You're great, John, and thanks from all of us lucky enough to know you on the board.

A Class Guy

Post by SeaBelle »

OJ has left his mark here and continues to bless us with his:
  • knowledge of Tys
knowledge of sail boat repair and maintenance
    dispensing of good advise

A raconteur of the first order, there is no end to his on point tales or topics. Mention a sandwich and you'll get a well told story of the Reuben he ate and the NY deli he ate it in. Mention a '47 Hudson and you'll likely get a story of a road trip to Florida. His life experience suggests a life well lived.

This guy is genuine and has a generous spirit. Many of us, including those who never met him, call him friend.
Sail on,

A really nice man

I had the pleasure of meeting OJ last summer. Does anyone remember Reader's Digest most unforgettable character column? I think OJ clearly falls into that category.

All that and more.

Very few posters on this or any other board can be informative and amusing at the same time. The only trouble: Sometimes I'm laughing so hard (and my eyes are tearing) that I can't copy down OJ's helpful answers.

Bravo! Hoist another one.

I think it can be very amusing when I'm trying to be informative. It just comes natural! Dick

Correction

Post by Joe Myerson »

Yes, Dick, you can be informative and amusing at the same time. (It's kind of like chewing gum and walking at the same . . . never mind), as can many others (including, but certainly not limited to, John V., Carter B., Neil G. and, perhaps, even on occason, Joe M.).

What I SHOULD have said was that OJ's postings are sometimes so amusing and informative at the same time that I find myself laughing too much to absorb the useful information.

Uh-oh, have I dug myself a deeper hole?
