I am going to make a paper pattern of the cabin sole before beginning the next task of replacing it (before starting the destruction phase in case it doesnt come out clean). Can anyone tell me how to transfer the curvature of the sole to a piece of craft paper?
TIA

When I templated my sole I used red rosin paper which I cut to the general size of the area to be templated, taped it to the sole and made some reference marks (centerline, most notably) then set a compass to a suitable width, which I marked on the template itself for reference, and then simply traced around the edge, where the sole met the hull.
Edit: Did I really write that as a single run-on sentance? Shudder.

New Sole Progress Pics
After removing the old cabin sole intact I traced the sole onto the new biscuit edge glued (Titebond II) mahogany and poplar boards. Since the new sole is a little over 1/2" thick and I am not planning on building new sloping sides I had to compensate for the additional edge width. I placed the old sole back in the boat and measured a distance of approximately 1 and 1/8" to get the sole right up against the sloping edge. I then added the measurement to the tracing using a compass set to the distance needed. Cut, bevel the edge and sand; I am almost done. I plan on using a layer of epoxy and fabric on the underside to protect from water damage. I still have the bilge access hatch to complete. I will then install the new sole with a few screws and adhesive to keep it in place. After that its down to applying the finish. I'll post more pics after the install. Not too hard of a project.
