CD-14 Floatation Compartment Repair

Post by brucewchurch »

The the bond between the floatation compartments on my CD14 and the hull needs some attention. The compartments look as though they are intended to be watertight rather than foam filled. Does anyone know if the bond between the floatation compartments and hull needs to be water tight? In other words, does the hull function as one of the walls of the compartment?

Thanks,
Bruce

Yes the joint does need to be water tight to provide floatation. On my CD-14 I cut inspection plates into the bow and stern floatation areas so I can get in there to clean things out and use some of the space for stowage. There is no foam in there. So You do need to maintain the entegrity of the joint. If it did leak a little it would just mean you would sink very slowly. They are great little boats, Steve.
