Made something neat.....cutting board hatch cover.

Hanalei has an icebox just to starboard as you descend the companion way ladder into the main cabin. Just forward of the icebox is a short counter space with an 8 X 8" opening that allows acces to the area behind the drawers and cabinet on the face of the icebox cabinet. There was an old "cutting board" (read that board!) that covered the 8x8 opening. The old board was pretty tired, so I wanted to make a nice butcher block top for it. We call the space the "grog locker", but it is an available storage space. I have been looking in every Kitchen shop around the area for an appropriate sized cutting board that I could modify to fit the opening. All I could find were some not too good ones that were $25 to $30 dollars each. Last weekend I stopped in to the local Benny's Home and Auto store and VIOLA, they had a good looking cutting board for $10!! Took it home, cut out a 9x9" piece on the table saw, rabbitted it to fit the 8x8 opening, moulded the top edge with a 3/8" roman ogee router bit and it's PERFECT!! If you need one, and can't make it or don't have the tools, let me know and maybe we can work something out. It really makes a difference.
