Radar/Chartplotter/GPS/Autopilot/ST60 Tridata Installation

Post by John W. Campbell »

Recently purchased the following Ratheon Equipment: RL70 radar and RL70 Chartplotter/with 114 DGPS and ST60 tridata. My plan is to place the Radar, ST60 and (existing) Autohelm 4000+ wheel pilot at the helm and the Chartplotter/GPS below (with the remote handheld Autopilot control). The Radar Dome (Raytheon) will be mounted on a Questas mount in front of the backstay.
Questions:
Is the 1 meter distance from RL70 radar screen to a compass (manufacturer's min suggested) that critical?? Most instllations I have seen have this screen installed on the stainless tubing which places the pod directly above the compass. Will this pose a problem??
2nd question: I plan on installing the Chartplotter screen in close proximity to an AM-FM Stereo radio. Will this pose any problems??
Lastly, I would really appreciate if anyone has a diagram (for a novice) to hook all this gear together in a way which will 1) minimize wireing runs and 2) maximize the Seatalk capabilities inherant with the equipment.
Thank you for any help/guidance offered

John - Question #1: I have mounted a Raytheon SL72 radar monitor on my binnacle post with no effect on my compass. I found the technical department at Raytheon to be my best resource for mounting options and wiring suggestions. They can be contacted via www.Raymarine.com or call their 800 number.

Questions #2: Mounting the GPS/Plotter in proximity to an AM/FM receiver should not be a problem, however the minimum distance recommendation between the GPS antenna and the radio antenna should be followed
