I have interest in a 1977 CD30 cutter. Although I have not had it surveyed yet, it appears to be in reasonably good condition. All equipment is original except for a new main (1995) and new ( 1996 ) interior cushions. In addition there is a CNG stove/oven. The asking price in Virginia is $ 26,900. Is this good, average, or high ?
I appreciate your response.

Cape Dory 30 Cutter - 1977

Condition
Well Tom, I happen to know a couple of brokers, one is a good friend and all I can do is pass on the advice they ALWAYS tell me about values. The major point is: AFTER TEN YEARS OLD CONDITION IS EVERYTHING !!!tom morris wrote: I have interest in a 1977 CD30 cutter. Forget Buc and Napa books, the way they comprise their figures is a joke according to the brokers I know. The current market along with what other similar vessels are selling for in your area is a reasonable approach to determining what a fair price is. Of course the pre-purchase survey is a must to confirm sound value no matter what the asking price.
Re: Cape Dory 30 Cutter - 1977
The price seems reasonable, though I would offer less to start. Compare it with others being offered now. Note asking price is not what a boat sold for. They were asking 25K for my CD30. I got it for 20K with new bottom paint.
Also find a good surveyer. My survey last year took 5 hrs. He went up and down all the rigging with a 5X magnifier.
