CD 28' cutless bearing?

Post by Paul Scribner »

I felt a little motion in the prop. shaft...could't determine if it was a 1/16" wiggle though so I asked the yard owner (whom I trust) to tell me if he thought it was time to replace the cutless bearing. He said he didn't know if the boat had one due to the two nuts holding a housing just before the prop on the shaft. Said he thought there might just be a stuffing box. I told him to cool it as I knew just where to go to find out what's there. So what's there. Do I have a cutless bearing and, if so, what's the best way to remove it to change it.
Thanks

Yup. I replaced mine two years ago, as recommended by survey.

It's not a big job if you have the right tools and know what you're doing. I had my mechanic do it, without incident.

Btw, looking forward to the Onset trip! Any chance of having the Scituate HS band playing Anchors Aweigh on the jetty as we leave? <g>

Thanks Neil also looking forward to Onset...Scituate H.S. band is already rehearsing.
What kind of time (expense) am I looking at and does the normal yard have the necessary tools?

I don't remember the cost exactly, but a couple of hours or so should do it. My mechanic is a generalist and had no problem with tools. It's fairly common surgery.
