Repainting Non-skid

I'm thinking of repainting the non-skid areas of my 1975 Typhoon. It's in good shape except for the blue color. I'd like to change it to a more traditional beige.

Do I need to sand and prime the area? Or is cleaning enough preparation? Do I need to prime the surface? I'm asking mostly because the paint is in good condition.

Can someone recommend a paint brand, color, and tip for applying non-skid to the paint (sprinkle on surface or mix with paint)?

Ijust completed painting the non-skid on my 1973 cd25. I used inter lux brightside and mixed the nonsid in the paint. Interlux sells small cans of the nonskid material. Be aware that you can get to much nonskid in the paint and it does not cure .

I put on my first coat of paint in the non-skid area without any non skid material. Then while it was still wet I sprinkled the non-skid granules onto the wet paint with a salt shaker. It's easy to see the effect and it should come out fairly even. The second coat (Petit EasyPoxy)went on with a foam roller after 24 hours (manufacturers recomendation) and everything worked out well. For the past three years the non skid has proformed as it should and looked good with no abrading of the grit.
By the way, I used the Awlgrip grit, which seems to be a bit more agressive. Good luck.
